2K Hires Apex Legends Producer to Revitalize Struggling Action Game Project Ethos
2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the development team at 31st Union, which is currently developing the upcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Management Transition Comes After Poor Response
Brinkman assumes the role of studio head at the development studio following the departure of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' lackluster unveiling last autumn.
Recently, 2K president a key figure notified employees about this strategic move through an internal memo, which highlighted that playtesting had shown the requirement for a distinct game identity.
The president stated that the developers is now overhauling the project with a renewed focus, aiming to satisfy community desires.
A Pattern of Strategic Acquisitions
This announcement follows a similar move taken by the publisher in August, when they recruited an industry veteran from the Diablo team to work on the BioShock development group.
Below is the complete text from Ismailer's announcement:
Dear Team—
I know you all just finished your meeting - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the good news. Previously I sent you all a update, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most motivated and creative designers we have had the pleasure to work with - and we’re eager for that collaboration to endure.”
With your dedication and adaptability, particularly over the last year, you repeatedly show that.
The community feedback from last autumn’s Project ETHOS testing phase was enlightening. It confirmed the promise of a action-packed game but made clear we still had refinements needed. It highlighted the requirement for a sharper vision.
It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve come. You took the input to mind and reimagined Project ETHOS with a renewed goal - one that’s poised to achieve its potential to our audience.
Our confidence in this project grows every day. To further the outstanding progress you’ve made, I’m excited to introduce Ben Brinkman as the incoming Lead of 31st Union. Following a period of talks, he starts with us on next week.
Ben’s guidance and experience in the competitive gaming field is vast, having devoted the past decade and a half creating and managing some of the most well-known titles in the industry, including Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, the battle royale hit.
Please join me in welcoming Ben in the coming days. We are all eager to keep seeing the development of the game in the weeks to follow.
David
